The congress will be organised by the Central Veterinary Institute of Wageningen UR (CVI). CVI is the national reference laboratory for the Dutch government and an international operating research institute for business life. The Central Veterinary Institute contributes to the health protection of animals and humans in the Netherlands by undertaking research on and recommending about animal diseases. The staff of about 250 highly qualified people undertakes research for a large group of clients. The research varies from specialist to multi-disciplinary. For research the focus is always on the concepts of quality and independence. The Central Veterinary Institute is part of Wageningen UR and has an annual turnover of about 34 million euro.
The main building of the CVI is located at he Houtribweg, where also the High Containment Laboratories are situated. This is where all the virological work is carried out with diseases notifiable to the OIE (e.g. Classical and African Swine Fever, Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Avian Influenza and Blue Tongue). A second building is at the Edelhertweg. CVI shares this building with other institutes that are part of the Animals Sciences Group.
Initially it was this building at the Edelhertweg where the congress would take place. However, due to a much higher than expected interest of both sponsors and scientists, it was recently decided to move to a bigger and better location for the congress. This location was ultimately found in Dronten, which is a village very near to Lelystad. Dronten has its own community center and theater (De Meerpaal), which turned out to be an excellent place for a scientific congress, with a large exhibition area for sponsor stands and poster presentations.
